Scenic Nevada has selected winning photographs in their 2009 Photo Contest "Beauty or Blight" for Nevada High School Students and Adults. The purpose of the Scenic Nevada 2009 "Photo Contest" for high school students and adults was to create an awareness of the importance of preserving, protecting and enhancing the scenic character of Nevada. More than 1,049 entries were submitted from all over the state this year, up by 355 photos from 2008.

The contest is to draw attention to the importance of preserving and enhancing the scenic beauty of Nevada, said Doug Smith, Scenic Nevada president. Judges this year were Penny Roskoski, Bob Goodman, Marilyn Melton, Marilyn Newton and Tim Torrell, all of the Reno area. The contest was sponsored by Jim Pilzner, of Reno, Roskoski, Melton and Scenic Nevada.

The grand prize in the beauty category went to Megan Atkinson of North Las Vegas in the 2009 Scenic Nevada contest.


 

Jennifer Rachiell got the grand-prize winning photograph for Blight with this photo of a former dump on the east side of Las Vegas.
